Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy

At the heart of the Christian faith, and Anglican Care’s mission, is the desire to care for the whole person. Ageing doesn’t diminish the importance of a person’s spiritual, physical, emotional, social or cultural care.

Anglican Care’s Chaplaincy Services provides each site with their own chaplain, who is an ordained priest in the Diocese of Newcastle. Our chaplains provide weekly Communion services, offering residents the opportunity to connect with their faith in meaningful ways. Our chaplains respect and honour each individual, offering pastoral care to all our residents, regardless of their religious (or non-religious) beliefs.

“In the end, these three things matter most:
How well did you love?
How fully did you live?
How deeply did you learn to let go?”

Jack Kornfield

It is the chaplains ministry to provide:

  • Spiritual support of each resident and their families
  • An assurance of the resident’s intrinsic worth and value
  • Quality listening and a compassionate, caring presence
  • Respect for the integrity of every person’s faith or spirituality
  • Opportunities to nurture and encourage a healthy spiritual life and strong sense of wellbeing

You may want to contact a chaplain if you:

  • Feel alone, anxious, sad or confused
  • Have an issue to discuss or are concerned about something
  • Are concerned about family relationships
  • Need support to adjust to changes
  • Want someone to pray with you
  • Just want a caring, friendly ear to listen to you

“The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen.
Just listen.
Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention…
A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.”

Rachel Remen
